Innis & Gunn
After many unsuccessful attempts by whisky producers to develop
a beer-finished blended whisky, Dougal Sharp - former head brewer
at Caledonian - was drafted in by William Grant & Sons in 2002
to craft a beer specially suited for this purpose. The beer was
being discarded as a by-product until the distillery manager
noticed that workers were sneaking it home. Put to a qualified
tasting panel, the beer received an unprecedented and unanimous
nine out of nine and an opportunity arose that was too good to
waste.
Innis & Gunn - named after Managing Director, Dougal Gunn
Sharp, and his brother, Neil Innis Sharp - was established in
August 2003 as a joint venture with the whisky company.
From an accidental discovery, we are now Scotland's largest
independent beer company and the UK's fourth largest specialty beer
in the off-trade. Since launching export in 2004, we have become
the leading British bottled beer in Canada and number two bottled
import ale in Sweden. Consumers in the States are also now waking
up to the unique and complex character that is Innis &
Gunn.
Our core brand stable features the multi-award-winning Original,
Rum Finish and Blonde with Limited Edition releases for the UK and
overseas maintaining seasonal appeal. In April 2010, we received
our biggest accolade to date by collecting a Queen's Award in
International Trade.
After 100 years, the whisky industry is still learning much about
the impact of wood upon final flavour. Innis & Gunn is only
just beginning to explore this unprecedented world, where endless
possibilities of flavour lie.
We are now looking for people to join the Innis & Gunn family
and continue on this exciting journey.
