Aberdeen Renewable Energy Group – November 2011
Leading figures from five of the Renewable Energy Group's member
organisations met in November this year to tackle renewable energy
challenges at a recent seminar in Aberdeen.
Search were proud to be selected as not only the main sponsor of
the event but also chosen to present on issues facing the
Renewables industry. We were asked to comment on skills
shortages within the industry along with briefing fellow members on
recent developments and emerging solutions within our specialist
area of Recruitment.
The seminar began with AREG's Chief Operating Officer, Morag
McCorkindale providing a brief introduction to AREG - 'Aberdeen
Renewable Energy Group and its members work proactively to exploit
new opportunities being created in renewable energy, and to
overcome the challenges faced by the industry. As a result,
the region is driving forward industry breakthroughs which are
central to Scottish, UK and European efforts to build a sustainable
renewable energy footprint in a globally competitive market. The
region's world-class oil and gas expertise and cutting-edge
innovation are key to the successful development of offshore
renewables. AREG's member events provide a vital platform for
them to interact, collaborate and share their expertise and
know-how, and as a result ensuring that Aberdeen City and Shire
continues to be recognised as a global leading energy hub.'
Search then took to the floor to highlight the current
recruitment challenges that exist in the Scottish renewable energy
sector. This chosen topic stemmed from a significant
industry-wide piece of market research carried out by our Aberdeen
Oil and Gas and Energy division, which involved the opinions from
200 leading organisations in the Oil and Gas and Renewable Energy
sectors in the Grampian region.
Each organisation was invited to take part in important research
and asked to comment on the emerging skills shortage debate that is
an escalating issue within the Scottish renewable energy industry.
Employers commented at length on how they could overcome hurdles to
fulfil jobs creation considering the Scottish Government has
projected the industry will generate 60,000 new jobs within the
sector over the next decade. Employers are becoming nervous as to
how they will fulfil project requirements to meet the demands of
their clients.
Search discussed how vital it is that the renewable energy
industry starts to see appropriately skilled people coming through
in order for Scotland to take full advantage of the jobs boom.
Search finished the seminar by taking various questions from the
audience on how we would approach the UK skills shortage.
Search commented 'Search Consultancy are a multi-divisional and
multi-locational recruitment consultancy with offices uk wide with
a vast geographical scope and broad range of services to cater for
a wide domestic and global client portfolio. This enables us
to tailor a high quality solution to reach candidates and clients
in even the most remote of locations.'
'Search are also working closely with candidates within the Oil
and Gas sector to discuss transferable skills into the energy
industry and also close liaison with many UK universities to
introduce graduates into this new and exciting emerging
market.'
