Engineering: A wealth of opportunity
Even in these austere times, the mechanical and electrical
(M&E) sector continues to be one of the most protected and
diverse markets. For certain disciplines such as building services
engineers, gas technicians and telecoms engineers, the demand has
never been greater. Never has the cost of qualifying in these roles
been more worthwhile.
As the industry slowly recovers and many more projects get
underway, M&E contractors are continually looking for quality
rather than quantity in their hiring decisions. Clients in this
market are now favouring temporary labour to complete projects on
time and keep costs down and moving away from permanent staffing
solutions. It's in this arena that Search are market leaders. Our
ability to place temporary candidates quickly and offer continuity
of work across numerous contractors makes us a very attractive
option to those looking for M&E-based roles.
As a sector of the M&E market, facilities management
(FM) is becoming big business and has increased tenfold over
recent years. Many of the largest construction companies in the UK
are now setting up FM divisions to compete with established FM
companies. With only small profits being made from traditional
building projects, they have been able to boost their profit and
reap the financial benefits of rolling maintenance programmes from
public-private partnerships (PPP) and private finance initiatives.
(PFI).
There has never been a better time to become involved in this
multi-disciplinary and challenging environment. From janitorial
staff to project management and all the related trades in between,
at Search we cover it all.
Utilities is another growing sector in this market and another
specialist area for Search. From water treatment works to gas
networks and with new housing developments popping up all over the
country, there is now a greater need than ever for specialist
utilities contractors. These companies will be involved in laying
new cabling, pipelines, overhead power lines and telecoms and
require people with expertise in all these areas.
