Skill Shortages in the International market
With many candidates aspiring to live and work abroad, a number
of countries have begun analysing their potential skills
shortages.
The tax free lifestyle of the Middle East continues to attract
many expatriates, with Saudi Arabia having issued approximately one
million expat work visas last year
Looking ahead, there appear to be skill shortages emerging in a
number of locations. Due to low birth rates and an ageing
population in Canada, it is likely that the country will seek
skilled expatriates to contribute to the labour force and economy.
The Canadian Immigration and Multiculturalism Minister predicted
Canada to have between 240,000 and 265,000 new permanent residents
in 2011.
South Africa has also been suffering from a skills shortage,
with the problem expected to worsen as we move into 2012. A survey
which looked at the banking, financial services and insurance
industries, particularly at graduates and postgraduates, found that
82% of auditing firms claimed there is a shortage of chartered
accountants in the nation. The fact that many South African
nationals are choosing to move abroad to work rather than stay in
their home country has also greatly contributed to the lack of
skilled professionals
