Harper MacLeod Sponsorship
Glasgow-based law
firm Harper Macleod LLP joins Search as Glasgow 2014
sponsor
Glasgow 2014 recently appointed leading commercial law firm
Harper Macleod as a sponsor for the XX Commonwealth Games. Harper
Macleod joins Search Consultancy and Ernst & Young as Tier 2
sponsors.
Scottish law firm Harper Macleod has become the
Official Law Firm of Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games, and as such
provides a number of services, including legal support on
commercial contracts, sponsorship, broadcasting, anti-doping, and
licensing.
Glasgow 2014's branding is based upon time, data, and
measurement - who can swim the fastest, jump the highest, and lift
the heaviest. Harper Macleod's sponsorship will be focused on
embracing these defining moments for individuals, from athletes
they represent, to their members of staff, to the people of Glasgow
and Scotland. Harper Macleod believes that hosting the
Commonwealth Games will be Glasgow's and Scotland's defining
moment, and want to share that excitement by investing in Glasgow
2014 and contributing towards staging an outstanding
Games.
The sponsorship was unveiled by Glasgow 2014 Chairman Lord Smith
and Chief Executive David Grevemberg at an event at Hampden
Park. They were joined by 30 schoolchildren from Mount
Florida Primary school in Glasgow.
Glasgow 2014 Chairman Lord Smith said:
"Harper Macleod is a highly respected Scottish law firm with
great pedigree in the sporting world. The partnership with
Glasgow 2014 is very much a "defining moment" in their
history.
"We are really pleased to be in the position of appointing
Tier 2 sponsors just under three years out from the Games.
When you look at previous Games, we are ahead of the curve and hope
to continue in a similar vein.
"Getting sponsors on board in this economic climate does
have its challenges, but Glasgow 2014 has such a good story to tell
that businesses like Harper Macleod couldn't wait to be formally
associated with us in this way."
Professor Lorne Crerar, Chairman of Harper Macleod
said:
"This is one of the most exciting events to befall Scotland
in recent years so we're delighted to be on board as the Official
Law Firm of the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games. The Games are a
defining moment for Glasgow, and Scotland as a whole, as the
opportunities for local businesses will be profound and should
provide a real boost at a time when our economy needs it most. The
Games will provide a unique opportunity for our firm to use its
diverse range of commercial legal skills at Scotland's largest
multi-sporting event."
Chief Executive of Harper Macleod, Martin Darroch,
said:
"The Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games will leave a lasting
legacy for Scotland and its people, young and old. People will be
more active, communities regenerated, more jobs created and
Scotland will be shown in all its glory around the world, which
should encourage tourism and, hopefully, inward
investment.
"Our responsibility to our local community is high on our
firm's agenda - which is why we are supporting Glasgow 2014 and its
goal of a sustainable Scotland. We also see the Games as an
opportunity to build lasting relationships throughout the
Commonwealth that will help bolster our nation and help us compete
better in local, national and international
markets."
